Visit Piccadilly Circus For A Taste Of London
Located at the junction of Shaftesbury Avenue and Regent Street in London is a tourist must see called Piccadilly Circus. This central area where you will find most anything that suits you is often compared to Times Square in New York as it is just as diverse in its crowds, neon lights and tourist attracting capabilities.

Here you will find the most interesting people in London along with shops, pubs, monuments and even theater. The area was created as we know it in 1819 but had already been known by the name Piccadilly Circus since 1743. Here you will find the Shaftesbury Memorial fountain which was put there in 1893 but actually moved from the center to its present location in the 1980s. This fountain was a technological innovation because it was the first to be cast in aluminum.

Located in the northeast is the London Pavilion which was erected in 1859, originally as a music hall. In 1885 Shaftesbury Ave bisected the site and a new building for the purpose was put up in 1923 which even had electric billboards. In 1986 the original façade from 1885 was preserved and the building rebuilt when the area was converted to a shopping mall. It has since been connected to Trocadero Center. Some of the stores of note that you will find in here include the Virgin Megastore, HMV, andLlily Whites. Underneath you will be able to catch the London underground subway system or “Tube” as it is known in London.

Near the center of Piccadilly Circus, you will find the reduced Shakespeare Company. This theater group specializes in a very fast-moving, very highly improvised, presentation based on Shakespeare's complete works which only takes 97 minutes. They've been performing this at the Criterion Theatre since 1995 and the shows are often sold out so if you want to see this interesting event you had better plan ahead.

If you'd rather see traditional theater, you can catch the best of British theater at the London West End shows. These are quite good and are often later adapted for Broadway. If you want to see the latest in technology, you'll have to look at the giant curved TV screen which is fairly new here and rivals even Times Square.

Piccadilly Circus has something for everyone and there are plenty of pubs as you might expect in London. However, when visiting the pubs you want to be a little selective as some are geared towards tourists but others are rather tourist unfriendly.
